Employee Spotlight: Rebekah Spaulding

As a naturally design-driven individual, Rebekah enjoys creating things. Her free time is filled with pottery, plant and garden care and collecting and refinishing mid-century furniture. Whether it’s a kiln, garden or computer, she creates art wherever she goes! On top of that, Rebekah’s creativity is also shown through her work here at as associate art director and graphic designer.

Describe what you do on a day-to-day basis.
The biggest part of my role is working with clients, designing for their projects. I’m also a resource for managing workloads for half of the design team, making sure everyone has the help they need and can work at a capacity that allows them to do their best. In addition, I lead our team’s efforts in Marketing Automation. I train the designers on the platform, design landing pages for clients and, implement new features…basically do anything I can to help the program grow. And I play a role on the internal marketing team and offer my help to the other art directors.

What do you enjoy most about your job?
I enjoy implementing something new. It’s rewarding to be part of launching a new product or program and watching it grow. I was part of Marketing Automation from the beginning, and now we have more than 20 clients on the platform and have achieved platinum status with our vendor. I also appreciate working with the design team, getting to know the designers better and doing what I can to help them be successful and feel supported.

What brought you to
What initially drove me to was the opportunity to be more creative. This is a smaller company than where I was previously, and I quickly found appreciation for the friendly vibes. Every year we grow a little bigger, but the culture doesn’t change. The team remains so supportive of each other.

Do you have any interesting work-related stories?
I recently received a package from a client, and it contained a book and a handwritten note thanking me for the work I’ve done. The client told me the book was one of her favorite stories to read to her daughter, and she hoped I would enjoy reading it to my daughter as well. I was really touched by her appreciation and that she remembered I have a young daughter.

Do you have a secret talent?
I’m an avid collector of houseplants, especially succulents. I’m even enrolled in a subscription service where I receive two new baby succulents each month. My talent with plants isn’t really a secret though; our president assigned me to be in charge of the plants at our new office building.

If you could learn a new skill, what would it be?
In my next life, I want to be a cake decorator who can make those really extreme cakes like you see on TV. I think it’s a really cool form of art that would be fun to learn.

How do you define success?
Finding joy in what you do and doing it well.

What does leadership mean to you?
I think the most important quality in a leader is the ability to build up and support the people around you. I try to employ that idea in everything I do. How can I make things easier for our team? How can I make us more successful? How can I work better with the other departments so we can build success together?
